Difference Between Unlocking and Jailbreaking Your iPhoneThe iPhone is a very popular phone worldwide, but unfortunately for many people it does not have all of the features that people are looking for. To get the most out of the phone, there are ways to jailbreak and unlock the phone to make it more useful.
Jailbreaking a phone is a process that changes the setup of the phone’s firmware to allow the installation of third party software that isn’t currently allowed by Apple. By jailbreaking the phone, there are a lot of different applications that can be downloaded and a lot of different tweaks and things that can be done with configuration that wasn’t previously possible.
To jailbreak the iPhone, there are a number of different software programs that are available. These are usually quite straightforward and will guide the user through the process. These can either be installed on the computer and then synced with the phone or can be installed directly onto the device. Most programs are quite stable and there is usually little worry about doing harm to the iPhone.
Unlocking is a different process. This is where the phone is able to work on any different cellular network. To be able to do this, the phone must first be jailbroken. Then, the phone is unlocked through the installation of software. This will make the phone able to accept the sim card from any different provider. The only way to truly test if the unlock was successful would be to try a new card in the phone.
Both unlocking and jailbreaking come with their risks. The software for these procedures has become more stable in the past few years, but it is still a process that is not recommended by the manufacturer. In most cases, it will also void the warranty if the device is not able to be brought back to the factory defaults.
For the person who is looking to take their iPhone abroad or to another carrier, they should seriously consider unlocking their phone. And for anyone who wants more apps and more flexibility with their device, jailbreaking is the way to go. There are risks, so people should be aware of all of these before starting the process. But even with these risks, many people feel it is truly worth it.
